Ladened with sugar, loaded with artificial dyes, and crippled with an ingredient list as long as the pacific highway— the cereals that currently line our grocery store isles aren’t what typically come to mind when you are trying to choose a “healthy breakfast option.” That’s why, in today’s post, I’m going to be showing you how you can have your cereal and eat it too with this healthy banging breakfast cereal. Enjoy!

  • Does not contain any refined sugars, Non-GMO, and no artificial flavors.
  • Crunchy, sweet, and satisfying breakfast cereal to start your mornings with a bang!

Why You Will Love This Cereal

March is National Nutrition Month and March 7th is actually National Cereal Day! So what better way to spend the day than talking about healthy breakfast cereal options. I mean, who doesn’t love some crunchy, sweet, and delicious cereal for breakfast? It’s quick and it’s easy, but is it healthy?

Unfortunately, most cereals that line our grocery store isles aren’t the healthiest option. Loaded with added sugar and synthetic dyes that have been linked to behavioral problems in children, most breakfast cereals are a less than optimal choice. One cereal brand, however, is on a mission to change this by creating a whole foods, plant-based, cereal that you can feel really good about eating! The brand? Seven Sundays Cereal.

I get asked on many of my social media platforms, including the members of Elizabeth G The RD Community about breakfast, breakfast cereals, and if I know of any healthy options. That’s why today, I’m happy to report that after some long and hard searching, I’ve found a healthy cereal option that tastes good.

In this post you’ll find the delicious, healthy, and wholesome cereal option that can fuel your mornings or supercharge your afternoon snacks, any day! Enjoy.

Traditional Cereal VS Seven Sunday’s Cereal

So what’s the difference between traditional cereal and Seven Sundays?

  1. Seven Sundays Is Actually Kid Friendly

That statistics from a 2009 Yale study, analyzing average children cereals and the marketing surrounding many children’s breakfast cereals are shocking.

  • Cereals marketed directly to children have 85% more sugar, 65% less fiber, and 60% more sodium than cereals marketed to adults for adult consumption.
  • Forty-two percent of child-targeted cereals contain artificial food dyes, compared with 26% of family cereals and 5% of adult cereals.
  • Of the cereals targeted directly to children, only 8% meet sugar limits to qualify for inclusion in the USDA’s Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program, and not one meets the nutrition standards required to advertise to children in the United Kingdom.
  • All cereals marketed directly to children — including Cocoa Puffs (44% sugar), Cap’n Crunch (44% sugar), Froot Loops (41% sugar), Lucky Charms (41% sugar) and Cinnamon Toast Crunch (32% sugar) — meet industry’s own nutrition standards for “better-for-you” foods.

Seven Sunday’s is different!

  • Gluten free, grain free, and NO added sugars
  • No use of synthetic colors or dyes
  • Non-GMO, whole food, ingredients
  • Upcycled, sustainable, sunflower proteins for added nutrition and protein content

Most berry cereals, for example, do not contain any fruit at all but rather a mix of sugar, vegetable oil, artificial flavors and food dyes. Seven Sundays, on the other hand, uses REAL berries to flavor thier berry flavored cereal. Mind. Blown.

2. Cost: A Company Who’s Values Show.

For every dollar you spend on cereal, have you ever wondered how much actually goes toward…food? For every dollar you spend on Seven Sundays cereals, the next biggest bucket goes to pay for ingredients, which is about $0.23. Then manufacturing (making the cereal) is about $0.09 and packaging is about $0.05. Everything else covers our overhead, and on good days, maybe a bit of profit.

For every dollar you spend, about $0.27 goes towards marketing and advertising. That is, convincing you to buy the product. Next, manufacturing is about $0.15 of every dollar, and packaging is about $0.04 of every dollar. What’s missing? Oh yeah, ingredients! For every dollar you spend on Big Cereal, you are getting about $0.04 worth of food.

The Flavors!

Seven Sunday’s Cereal

As someone who tries A LOT of brands, I gotta say, this cereal is cerealosly delicious! The flavors?

  • Maple Sea Salt
  • Real Cocoa
  • Real Cinnamon
  • Real Berry

My favorite flavor is the Maple Sea Salt, with Real Cocoa and Real Berry coming in CLOSE second. I enjoyed my cereal bowl with some unsweetened vanilla almond milk, sliced banana, a sprinkle of cinnamon, and berries… GAME CHANGER. Seriously, you have to try it.

This cereal gives me all the nostalgia of my childhood, without any of the sneaky business practices, additives, and other “junk.” I really can’t ask for anything else and therefore I HIGHLY recommend that you give it a try.

Healthy eating doesn’t have to be hard. With this sunflower cereal, it’s as easy as (1) pick a flavor, (2) pick a milk, and (3) enjoy! Or, just eat it straight out of the bag (guilty).
